Evacuation simulation of the Rudolf Harbig Stadium in Dresden

Description
Client: S&P Sahlmann
Task: Evacuation simulation
Result: Review of the evacuation concept for change of use

Background

The Rudolf Harbig Stadium has a long history. It first opened its doors in 1923 and has been the home of Dresden's soccer clubs ever since. After it was severely damaged by the flood of the century in 2002, the city council decided to rebuild the stadium. Within 22 months, a modern stadium for over 32,000 guests was built and is currently the steepest single-tier stadium in Germany. Today, the Rudolf Harbig Stadium is not only a popular venue for soccer fans, but also for visitors to numerous concerts by international celebrities. One highlight, for example, was the Robbie Williams concert in June 2017. Especially at such large events, where up to 30,000 people want to party, the safety of everyone is the top priority for the operators.

Objective of the simulation

To guarantee safety at large events, accu:rate was commissioned by S&P Sahlmann to carry out an evacuation simulation of the stadium.

Our approach

The complete evacuation of approx. 30,000 concert visitors from the event area in the interior and the stands.

Results

Based on the evacuation analysis prepared by accu:rate, the evacuation times could be determined and the evacuation concept optimized. Furthermore, it was possible to obtain an official permit for the event.
