Comfort analysis of the EDGE East Side in Berlin (Warschauer Brücke)

Description
Client: EDGE Technologies
Task: Comfort analysis
Result: Optimization of the flow of people in the building

Background

Berlin's districts are developing rapidly and are constantly changing. One such district development is currently underway at Warschauer Brücke in Berlin-Friedrichshain. In the immediate vicinity of the Mercedes Benz Arena with the Entertainment District, which was completed in 2018, and the East Side Mall, the EDGE East Side high-rise project is currently still in the planning phase. This high-rise was developed by one of the most innovative Dutch project developers, EDGE Technologies. EDGE Technologies, a spin-off from OVG Real Estate, has developed one of the first energy-neutral buildings and is now also using this approach in the planning for the EDGE East Side project in Berlin. The 142-metre-high building combines various uses under one roof, including office space, co-working spaces, cafés, service facilities and event rooms.

Objective of the simulation

In order to check whether the building is designed for the many different types of use as early as the planning phase, accu:rate was asked by the client's representative BOHNZIRLEWAGEN to carry out a visitor flow analysis.

Our approach

  •  Stress test of the foyer, entrances and vertical circulation elements in various scenarios
  • Variation of the number and position of the elements to determine the best possible solution in relation to the specified design criteria

Results

Together with our client, we defined different variants and analyzed the results. This iterative process enabled us to develop the optimum solution for the client and carry out a comprehensive stress test for the building.
