Background
Since 2013, the Electric Love Festival has established itself as one of the best-known and largest festivals for electronic music in Europe, attracting over 40,000 visitors a day every year.
Objective of the simulation
In order to be prepared in the event of an emergency, accu:rate was commissioned to optimize the existing evacuation concept with the help of crowd simulation in cooperation with the safety officer Martin Bardy from siflux.
Our approach
- Scenario 1: Orderly evacuation in which visitors are directed to two assembly points.
- Scenario 2: Evacuation in which visitors are instructed to return to the campsites and cars without having been assigned routes to follow.
Results
Scenario 1: The simulation revealed places where the layout could be optimized and the flow improved without much effort.
Scenario 2: Closing a passageway prevented the formation of counterflows and enabled a smooth outflow.
It turns out that flows of 40,000 people over an area of more than 4.5 km² are very difficult to predict. But with simulations, you don't lose track of things, even in large projects.
Simulation of the evacuation: visitors are directed to the assembly points over a very wide area.
