crowd:it Version 3.4 is released!

We develop and improve crowd:it continuously. And now, a new version is released with great new features.

In addition to various bug fixes, there are also a few great new features that we would like to introduce to you.

Inverted Logic for the Navigation Field

With this update, we’ve changed how navigation fields for agents are handled. Navigation fields guide our agents through the geometry. While static navigation fields are calculated only once at the start, dynamic navigation fields update every second to account for other agents as obstacles. These agents generally represent blockages or congestion, which are then avoided in time by the agents.

With a dynamic navigation field, agents are willing to take a longer outer path if it helps them reach their destination faster.

With a static navigation field, agents tend to stay closer to walls and adjust their paths less, as this represents the shortest route.

Previously, only dynamic navigation fields were calculated by default. In many cases, dynamic fields are not even necessary—for example, when no congestion occurs. To save computation time, we have therefore changed the default setting. Dynamic navigation fields are now disabled by default, but you can re-enable them at any time in the simulation settings.

It may also be sufficient to activate them only selectively for specific targets. This is particularly useful for destinations where congestion occurs. In the target properties, you can click on “Advanced” to enable the dynamic navigation field for that target.
